Dear Friends,
It is VBS week! Thanks to the creativity and hard work of Ms. Janet and her many volunteers, the church campus has been transformed into an outer-space experience to show 250+ students from our community just how bright Jesus’ Light Shines. The kids are singing, laughing, and learning about God. It is a blessing. This Sunday, you can be a witness to these blessings at the VBS Sunday Service! Many of the children will perform songs and share the fun they experienced this week. They are excited to spread that joy with you in the service. Also, please plan on staying for the free picnic after the service to join in fellowship with our children and families from both our church and visitors participating in the VBS service.
FISD Community Faith Partners Mentor Volunteers Needed: In the past, we partnered with KidsHope USA to provide adult mentors to students at Westwood/Bales. After Covid, we began to phase this program out. In the last year, the counselors on these campuses have recognized a growing need to bring this type of mentorship back. We will be working with the district’s existing Faith Partners program to provide support to students in need. If you are available to meet with a student for thirty minutes to an hour once a week or serve as a substitute, please reach out to Bobby and let him know you are interested.
Next week Eddie Rollins will be celebrating her 95th birthday. There will be cake and festivity on July 19 from 2:00-4:00 pm in the coffee café. Eddie has requested that donations be made to the shower ministry for the homeless instead of gifts. Needs for the shower ministry include men’s underclothes, men’s pants, travel-size toiletries, and wipes; financial gifts toward the shower ministry are also welcome (checks should be made out to the church with shower ministry in the memo).
In June many of our ladies gathered for a meal and to worship together. It was such a joy that a second Women’s Summer Night Conference was scheduled for July 19. Join us as we fellowship, sing, and praise together from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the coffee café. A catered meal will be provided. Please RSVP by Monday, July 17 to be included in the meal. Contact the church office if you need additional information or have any questions.
Mark your calendars, our next host week for Family Promise is August 13. We will need volunteers to help with setup, to stay the night, and to host dinners for our guests. Be praying for how you can serve this ministry. If you would like more information or want to volunteer, contact Beth Skeeter or Desiree Trevino. Also – this year we will be hosting families Thanksgiving week. Please mark your calendar now, and pray about the possibility of helping that week. What a great opportunity to express your gratitude for God’s blessings by serving others!
Janet Black is retiring from her role as director of children’s ministries. Please join us immediately after the worship service on July 30th to celebrate Ms. Janet for the many ways that she has blessed our children and our entire congregation during her 21 years of ministry. We are so thankful for her.
