Chapel renovations: You might have noticed some crews at work on various parts of our campus in recent weeks. Much of the work is going on in the Chapel, which we hope will be ready for use in time for our Vacation Bible School next month. Our beautiful Chapel has been unusable for the past 6 years, ever since water seeped through the stone into the room during Hurricane Harvey. When the wet carpet was removed, we discovered that the asbestos tile underneath had broken up to the point that remediation was required before the Chapel could be used again. Now that the asbestos remediation is finally complete, we are in the process of installing new HVAC equipment (the old system was no longer functional), bringing the exits and emergency lighting up to code, repairing the glazing on the stained glass windows, painting the walls and ceiling, and installing new flooring. We are extremely grateful to Don Powell for giving leadership to this project. Don recently accepted the position of Coordinator for Facilities, and he has spent many hours not only overseeing all of the work on the Chapel, but also working on projects in other areas of our campus. The work that Don has done will help to make our campus safer, more functional and more attractive. Please take a moment to thank him for all of his hard work next time you see him! Don and the other members of the Facilities Committee are working on plans for other short-term and long-term projects to help preserve and make the best use of the facilities with which God has blessed us.
Camp Quaker Haven: Please pray for our junior and senior high students who are heading to Camp Quaker Haven, as well as the counselors and drivers who are helping out. This time away at camp is an important opportunity for students to reflect on their relationship with God and to build friendships with other students, so we appreciate your prayers these coming weeks for God’s blessing on each participant. Our senior high students leave tomorrow, and junior high students leave on Monday, June 12th. A special shout out to those who have volunteered to serve as counselors, or to make the long drive to Kansas and back to allow our students to have this opportunity. Four of our drivers are making 2 round trips – thanks to Janet Black, David Byrne, Ann Curry and Bryan Dudley for going the extra mile! (Better said, extra miles – it takes 2400 miles to make 2 round trips to camp.) Katelyn Sanders, our new pastor of student ministries, has volunteered at camp MANY times, but this is her first time to make the trip as the pastor of our group, so please remember Katelyn in your prayers as well.
Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. – Colossians 3:16 NLT
