“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1: 2-4

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11: 1

As one might expect in preparing for Dude camp this year, there were several hurdles to overcome and last minute obstacles that seem to be distracting me from feeling that I could reach our goal for departure on Sunday. There have been logistical challenges, last-minute changes, and moments of frustration and doubt. Even here at camp, there have been distractions and moments that tempt me to focus on what’s going wrong rather on what God is doing. Having storms blow through cancelling our outdoor activities causing us to alter our schedule can make me want to throw my hands up in defeat or get lost in frustration. I can easily begin to focus on what’s not working and forget why we’re actually here.

But as I read in James and Hebrews this morning I was reminded to “consider it pure joy” when facing trials—not because the trials themselves are fun, but because it is an opportunity for me to grow in my faith. These obstacles CAN have a purpose. Even in the middle of the mess I can see how God is still moving. I can see how God is shaping me through the hiccups, strengthening my endurance, and more importantly, teaching me to trust Him more fully. To have more FAITH.
While being here at Dude camp I’ve seen Him provide in ways only He can. First andforemost, through my volunteers who gave up their vacation time to come love on kids. People who stepped in despite their own busy schedules. I have been blessed by their willingness to sacrifice their own free time, to sacrifice sleep and to sacrifice comfort to bring about God’s kingdom. These volunteers are reminders that God is not only working, but PROVIDING even in the chaos.
Camp isn’t about perfection. It’s about eternal value—kids are hearing about Jesus, some for the first time, hearts being softened, and seeds being planted that will grow for years to come. That’s worth more than anything going smoothly.

So here is your challenge…how might God be asking you to serve? Maybe it’s helpingwith kids, making meals for Family Promise or staying overnight as a host. You neverknow how your “yes” might be the answer to someone’s prayer—or the start ofsomeone’s story with Jesus. So today, I’m choosing to trust that God will finish what He started—not just in me, but in you and our precious fifth graders here at camp as well.

Blessings,
Tena
